The Garmin Nuvi 760 is a state of the art GPS navigation unit that comes packed with features. It has an extremely robust and effective routing systems, allowing users to go on multi-destination trips efficiently and at in the least amount of time possible. Bluetooth compatibility for hands-free phone calls (required by law in some states) and a real time traffic system (subscription service after introductory period) make this system perfect for driving around town or taking long road trips cross country.

This is a relatively new GPS unit, so having a refurbished model come out so quickly is great for those who want to save on some of the latest technology.

A Bad Review

Here is a review from someone who labeled themselves a "brand customer" of Garmin units.  They did not like the Garmin Nuvi 760:

I am a brand consumer. Garmin is all I've ever own since the eMap (monochrome display) first came out. After reading the glowing review in PC Mag, I recently decided to upgrade from my 60CX for the larger display (getting older) and it IS great.

However, that's about as far as it goes. Here are my complaints:

(1) You cannot sort your Favorites by e.g. alpha/numeric, they only display nearest to your location (in miles) Bogus! So, if you have 300 favorites you have to scroll and guess when to stop.

(2) There is no audible "DING" when you arrive at your turn, causing you to keep your eye on the map. Bogus! -driver safety compromise.

(3) You cannot customize data fields to display (e.g.) time in m/h to next turn or favorite, time of day, etc. while in map view.

(4) The sound from the single speaker is very bad. My bluetoothed phone sounded like crapola. A cheap speaker phone and nothing more.

(5) To use the FM transmitter to hear from the car's speakers, you have to tune to an FM channel with static!!!!! The instructions even say so. Triple BOGUS! Who wants to drive while listening to nothing but static so you can hear the voice prompts.

(6) Even when using the FM transmitter, mp3's sound terrible through the car speakers.

(7) Only the Quick Start guide was in the box. To my surprise I found the full instruction manual on Garmin's website (still made no diff on my experience).

I could go on and on. I'm giving 2 stars just for the display. All those that glow about this product are probably new to gps/mapping technology so they don't know how high the bar was previously set by Garmin. Only thing left for them to add now is a stupid useless vanity camera!!! Shame Garmin!

This person had some extensive experience with pervious Garmin products and found the 760 lacking in several respects.  That is okay and something that you should certainly take into consideration when dropping over $150 on a gadget.  But he did not have anything to say about the routing and even spoke well of the display.

A Good Review

Here is a good review of this refurbished GPS. What is interesting is that some of the complaints raised by the first individual were directly contradicted by this person's review (I have bolded these comments:

My first GPS, and I couldn't be happier. It fired up fully charged right out of the box W/2009 maps installed. I tested navigation with everyday stops that I am familiar with, and I must say that I was impressed with the accuracy. I did notice that in a few instances, I was on top of the turn before the voice prompt gave instruction. I 'm not too worried about that however, as you can clearly see the visual approach of the turn on the map.

The 760 is packed with features, and is very easy to operate.Bluetooth works great! The 760 immediately synched with my Motorola Q, and imported my phone list. I have an aux jack in my Saab 9-5, and the phone sound quality is incredible through the car speakers. I made various calls while traveling on the freeway, and no one reported hearing any echoes. Crystal clear!

I picked up an 8gb SD card and loaded pictures of the family and a ton of mp3's. Mp3 sound quality through the aux is equal to that of my iPod. My only complaint about the Mp3 player is that it does not appear as though there is a shuffle feature.

Overall, a great unit as indicated by the many other reviews out there. I have purchased refurb electronics before, and for the most part, have had great experiences with them. The money I saved from buying refurb vs. new paid for the SD card and a vent bracket. Being a refurb unit, it came in a plain Garmin box, but inside it was packaged as a new unit would be with all accessories listed.

I find this review particular interesting because of the detail that the author uses. They compare the MP3 sound quality to their iPod, so if you have one of those you will know what the phone quality and MP3 quality are going to sound like

Buying The Refurbished Garmin Nuvi 760

The prices on the refurbished Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS are pretty low, but for some reason the prices of the "new" model have been known to dip down into range of the refurbished unit. When this is the case I strongly recommend getting the new item. There is no reason to buy a refurb if there is not a significant cost savings associated with your purchase. I would recommend that if the prices are within $20 of each other to go with the new version of this navigational GPS from Garmin.
